Green Hope 24, Jordan 14
Jordan, playing without starting quarterback Jonah Witherspoon and star defensive lineman Xavier Perkins, dropped its second straight game at Green Hope Friday.
The visiting Falcons struck first in the opening quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run from senior running back Devon Taylor.
Green Hope responded with 17 unanswered points, including an 8-yard touchdown pass from senior Ryder Schorzman to senior Jack Trainor at the halftime buzzer and a short rushing score by Schorzman to start the fourth quarter.
Later in the fourth, Jordan senior Marcus Martin scored on a short run to bring the Falcons within three.
With just under four minutes remaining, Green Hope converted a fourth and short in Jordan territory. Green Hope iced the game with a 24-yard score from Schorzman to junior receiver AJ Davis.
Jordan fell to 4-3 with the loss.
Southern Durham 53, Chapel Hill 0
Southern Durham found numerous ways to the end zone in a blowout win over Chapel Hill Friday.
Senior quarterback Jonathan Dillon threw two touchdowns, and he ran in a score. Senior Caleb Kearney hauled in a touchdown, and senior Lathan McGahee took a short forward toss a long distance for six.
Running back Akshar Barnes, another senior, ran in the Spartans’ first points of the night. Later in the first half, Senior Lance Henderson returned a punt for a touchdown. On the ensuing possession, senior Kobe Whimper notched a pick six down the sideline to put the Spartans ahead 44-0 before halftime.
Southern Durham also earned points from two safeties.
The Spartans moved to 4-2 and 1-0 in Tobacco Road 6A/7A Conference play. They outscored their last two opponents 93-0.
Chapel Hill fell to 1-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
Hillside 49, East Chapel Hill 0
Hillside came out of the bye week with its largest win of the season Friday.
The Hornets moved to 4-2 and 1-0 in Tobacco Road 6A/7A Conference play.
East Chapel Hill, which fell to 1-4, dropped its fourth game in a row.
Seaforth 48, Orange 0
Seaforth’s win over Orange was another one of those nights where senior Duncan Parker couldn’t keep the ball out the end zone.
Parker threw for five touchdowns and ran in one to lead the Hawks to their fourth straight win. It marked the fourth game this season in which Parker was responsible for at least five touchdowns.
Junior Jude O’Neill hauled in two scores and snagged an interception.
Seaforth led 32-0 at halftime. The Hawks, who moved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in Big Seven 4A/5A Conference play, have outscored their last two opponents 98-0.
Orange fell to 2-4.
J.F. Webb 42, Carrboro 12
Carrboro lost its second straight game to J.F. Webb Friday.
J.F. Webb rushed for nearly 350 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Alijah Kinton ran for over 190 yards and a score on 10 carries.
The Jaguars dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Big Seven 4A/5A conference play.
South Granville 54, Cedar Ridge 0
Cedar Ridge couldn’t produce in a blowout loss to South Granville.
The Vikings hit the Red Wolves with a balanced attack, throwing for 224 yards and rushing for 213. Junior Traevon Hayes recorded six catches, 115 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Cedar Ridge dropped to 0-4 and 0-1 in Big Seven 4A/5A Conference play.
Jordan-Matthews 36, North Moore 8
Freshman Khalil Sherrod’s breakout performance led Jordan-Matthews to a dominant win over North Moore.
Sherrod was 12 for 14 with 241 passing yards and five passing touchdowns. Senior J.J. White hauled in four catches for 91 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Junior Lennox Mordecai, who has handled the quarterback duties most of this season, also caught two scores. Sophomore Jayden Fisher logged a receiving touchdown as well.
All of this was done in three quarters. Things got chippy on the field, and multiple North Moore players were ejected. Jordan-Matthews coach Kermit Carter said North Moore coach Andrew Carrouth requested to end the game late in the third quarter over concerns about the number of players available following the ejections.
Jordan-Matthews moved to 4-3 and 1-0 in Four Rivers 3A/4A Conference play. The Jets won consecutive games for the first time this season.
Eastern Randolph 42, Northwood 0
Not much went the Chargers’ way in their conference-opening loss to Eastern Randolph.
Northwood was shut out for the first time this season. With the loss, Northwood fell to 2-4 and 0-1 in Big Seven 4A/5A Conference play.
