Girls’ volleyball

Seaforth handed Cedar Ridge its first loss 3-1 in its Big Seven 4A/5A conference opener Tuesday. The Hawks went up 2-0, dropped the third set by a score of 25-16 and closed the win in a tightly contested 25-22 fourth set. Seaforth followed that with a sweep of Durham School of the Arts Thursday.

Cedar Ridge bounced back with a sweep over Western Alamance Wednesday.

East Chapel Hill pulled off a 2-0 comeback to defeat Middle Creek in five sets. The Wildcats won the final two frames in extra play, winning the fifth set by a score of 16-14.

Carrboro swept South Granville and Orange to start 2-0 in Big Seven 4A/5A conference play.

Before the loss to Carrboro, Orange swept Riverside and fell to Grimsley 3-1.

Southern Durham matched last year’s win total (three) with a 3-2 win over Southeast Raleigh Monday. The Spartans fell to Cary 3-0 the following night.

NCSSM-Durham responded from a 3-0 loss to Franklin Academy with a sweep over Neuse Charter Thursday.

Excelsior Classical Academy notched a sweep over Northern Durham Tuesday and followed that with a 3-0 win over Oxford Prep. The Flying Lions fell to East Wake Academy 3-0 Friday.

Research Triangle is on a seven-game win streak after sweeping East Wake Academy and beating both Voyager Academy and Franklin Academy by a score of 3-1.

Woods Charter extended its win streak to five after sweeps over Southern Wake Academy and Ascend Leadership.

Following a 3-2 loss to River Mill Academy, Chatham Charter edged Eastern Randolph 3-2 and swept The Hawbridge School to improve to 6-3 on the season.

Chatham Central swept Jordan-Matthews for its second win of the season before dropping two games to North Stokes (conference opener) and Eastern Randolph both by a score of 3-1.

After falling to Charlotte Latin 3-0, Durham Academy won two five-set matches over Providence Day and Cannon Saturday.

Boys’ soccer

Jordan extended its win streak to four with a 1-0 victory over East Chapel Hill Monday and a 3-0 win over Athens Drive Wednesday.

East Chapel Hill responded with a 4-0 win over Northwood Thursday.

Chapel Hill took its first loss of the season to Green Level 2-1. The Gators broke a 1-1 halftime tie with a goal in the second half.

Carrboro and Riverside ended their tightly contested battle in a scoreless draw. The Pirates bounced back with a 3-0 win over Orange Wednesday with goals from Juan Perdomo, Pablo Lange and Jacob Feller.

Orange and Hillside tied 1-1 Friday.

Eno River took down Woods Charter 2-1 in the Wolves’ season opener. The Bobcats received goals from Clay Jablonski and Rocco Massimino.

Southern Durham defeated Cary 4-2 Tuesday and fell to defending 5A state champions Western Alamance 4-1 Thursday.

Excelsior Classical defeated Cristo Rey Research Triangle twice by scores of 3-0 and 2-1.

Research Triangle extended its win streak to three with a 3-2 victory over Roxboro Community, but Voyager Academy ended the Raptors’ run with a 2-1 decision. Junior Daniel Rangel and senior Jamin Smith scored for the Vikings. Prior to that game, Voyager Academy defeated Neuse Charter 5-2.

Jordan-Matthews defeated Central Carolina Academy 1-0 and Eastern Alamance 2-0, winning three of its last four games.

Durham Academy picked up two wins over Charlotte Christian (1-0) and Providence Day (2-1).

Girls’ tennis

Riverside is on a three-game win streak after defeating Vance County 9-0 and Seaforth 5-4. The Pirates won four singles matches and took home the No. 1 doubles match.

East Chapel Hill also beat Seaforth 7-2.

Research Triangle remained undefeated (5-0) after beating Voyager Academy 9-0 and Franklin Academy 9-0.

Orange built a three-match win streak with victories over South Granville (6-0 and 9-0) and Durham School of the Arts (8-1).

Chapel Hill suffered consecutive losses to Cardinal Gibbons (9-0) and Cary Academy (7-2) this week.

NCSSM-Durham defeated Franklin Academy twice by scores of 5-1 and 8-1.

Cedar Ridge beat Eno River Academy 6-3, but the Bobcats responded with a 5-4 win over Chatham Charter. Eno River won three singles matches.

Prior to the loss, Chatham Charter picked up two wins over Clover Garden School and Southern Wake Academy.

After beating Durham School of the Arts 9-0, Carrboro took down Cedar Ridge 7-2.

NCSSM-Durham finished first (137, 29 over par) , and Research Triangle finished fourth (167, 59 over par) in the Diamond Nine match at Olde Liberty.

Eno River Academy won a match alongside Falls Lake, Henderson Collegiate, Oxford Prep and Vance Charter at Henderson CC Tuesday. The Bobcats shot 161 (53 over par).

Carrboro defeated Chapel Hill in a dual match 156 (48 over par) to 163.

Northwood edged Chatham Central in a dual match 172 (64 over par) to 175.
