Excelsior Classical Academy won the Kerr-Vance Invitational championship with a 2-0 (best-of-three) win over Kerr-Vance Academy Saturday. The Flying Lions went 5-0 in the weekend tournament.

East Chapel Hill passed a season-opening road test as it took down Green Level 3-2 Monday. The two teams traded tightly contested sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-22, 25-17, 15-13) until the Wildcats edged the Falcons by two points in the final frame. Junior Cameron Bublitz logged a team-high 12 kills and senior Lucy Tisch recorded 25 digs.

Cedar Ridge started the season with back-to-back sweeps over Roxboro Community on Tuesday and Southern Durham on Thursday. Senior Addilyn Jackson combined for 26 kills in the two wins.

Carrboro finished the opening week 2-0 with a 3-1 win over Person and a sweep over Southern Alamance. Junior Sarah Vandersea logged 17 kills and 14 digs against the Rockets. The Jaguars won each set over Southern Alamance by double digits.

Northern Durham also joined the 2-0 club with a sweep against Durham School of the Arts and a 3-1 victory over Voyager Academy.

After a 3-1 loss to Eastern Alamance Monday, Riverside swept Excelsior Classical Academy Wednesday in close sets (26-24, 25-15, 25-20). Excelsior Classical Academy took down Voyager Academy 3-2 behind freshman Avery Sheets’ 22 kills Tuesday.

Eno River Academy defeated Research Triangle 3-2 in Monday’s season opener, but Research Triangle bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Woods Charter Friday.

Chatham Charter achieved its best three-game start since 2019 as it followed a 3-1 loss to Providence Grove with consecutive sweeps over Chatham Central and Jordan-Matthews.

Boys’ Soccer

Carrboro opened the year with a 4-1 win over Hillside Monday. The Jaguars followed that with a 3-0 victory over Southeast Alamance Wednesday to start 2-0.

Research Triangle and Durham School of the Arts tied 2-2 in the season opener for both teams Wednesday.

After a 3-1 loss to Green Hope Tuesday, East Chapel Hill evened its record with a 5-2 win against Seaforth Thursday. Senior Owen Grabowski scored a team-high two goals in the victory.

Jordan had six different players score (Bruce Bloom, Casey Yamauchi, Owen RoyFarrug, Elliott Dubois, Miller Mansfield and Ary Webb) in a 6-1 rout over Franklinton in its season opener. The Falcons tied with Durham Academy 0-0 Friday.

Girls’ Tennis

Eno River Academy defeated Chatham Charter 7-2 in its season opener, winning five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.

Orange started the season with three straight wins over Chatham Charter (8-1), Triangle Math and Science (7-2) and Southern Alamance (9-0).

Seaforth defeated Northwood twice (both by scores of 6-0) to start 2-0 on the year.

After a 3-3 draw with Green Hope, East Chapel Hill handed Carrboro its first loss of the season 9-0 Thursday. Carrboro started the year with two wins over Cedar Ridge (6-0) and Jordan-Matthews (9-0).

Riverside is 2-0 after defeating Person 8-1 and Durham School of the Arts 9-0 in its opening week.

Chapel Hill split its first week with a 9-0 win over Durham School of the Arts and a 9-0 loss to Broughton.
